Where Do You Work: From Your Head Or Your Heart?

For Some Of Us, Only One Really Works, And It May Not Be The One You Think

I was just in a wonderful conversation with my friend Linda Joy yesterday, and she asked: When can we know we are in our zone of magic and wonder, or we’re not? (Sorry if I can’t remember your exact words Linda; I think the gist of it is there.)

It’s not complicated at all.

The basic formula is simple.  If what I’m doing feels good, and if it comes from love, I am in my heart-space. When I am in that space, magic happens. I am inspired, I am having fun (yes, we really CAN have fun when working!), and things flow with ease and grace.

When I’m in my head-space, I am trying to “figure things out”. That NEVER works for me. I don’t know about you.

Is “working hard” the best way?

When we strive to “work hard” and close off our hearts, we tend to work from a place of lack, limitation and fear. And if we want to attract more positive things into our lives like success, joy, freedom, fun, etc.….Needless to say, that isn’t the way to do it.

When work doesn’t feel good, it’s tough to get the results we want. I have literally gotten headaches from staying stuck in my head and closing off my heart.

A new way to work

It has taken YEARS (decades, really) to shift gears from the old programming of “working hard”—as if there is some medal or reward to be earned from that—to a new mode of work. A place where I am getting stuff done, yet it is fun and joyful. As a heart-centered entrepreneur, I am grateful to know that and claim it. When we are heart-centered and learn to operate from this heart-space mode, the most amazing things happen.

Events unfold with so much love and light. Opportunities come along to grow business-wise and personally. I have met the most amazing, loving, kind people in this way, and my business literally flows with ease and grace.

There is always a choice. Which path do you choose?

Nothing Can Change Us Or Our Moods

Looking within first is the way we can do this.

Imagine knowing for most of your life that you don’t need to drink alcohol, eat fattening, sugary foods, or use a medication to feel better. Many people go through their entire lives and don’t know this.

Not every situation is the same…

Of course there are chemical imbalances that need medication like depression or anxiety that need to be treated by a professional. There are also people that become addicted to alcohol and drugs; they also need professional help. Those situations are not what this blog post is talking about.

Too often we look to other people, places and things to make us feel better. What we need to understand is that there IS nothing that can change our mood or state of being that is outside of ourselves. 

There is another way.

Why do we look outside ourselves? Is it because we have been conditioned to do so? What if we were taught emotional intelligence in school instead as children?

There is a great book, called Emotional Intelligence 2.0 by Travis Bradberry and Jean Greaves, that really explains the concept of emotional intelligence beautifully. It also has ways that we can improve our own EQ, the emotional version of IQ. It can be found online here: https://amzn.to/2JnZzNO

We can bring in healthy behaviors like using positive affirmations, meditation, yoga, food, water or tea. Music can be a great way to feel better too. The difference is whether what we choose adds to our happiness and wellness or subtracts from them.

The bottom line here is that we do not NEED to go for unhealthy people, place and things to help us escape from the way we are feeling. That will ultimately make our situation worse, not better.

What happens when we look within?

When we learn how to rely on ourselves more to improve our mood or state of being, two things happen:

  1. We no longer have to wait for someone (something) to come rescue us. We can rescue ourselves!
  2. Our level of self-esteem rises. We know that we are strong and resourceful enough to raise our energetic and emotional vibrations and help ourselves feel better!

This can also help us if we have a business. Although having a coach is often vital to the success of our business, we don’t have to wait for someone else to validate what we are doing. By taking good care of ourselves, we can be creative, resourceful and energetic—which will benefit our business as well!

Having what we need is within our own grasp.

It is so liberating when we understand that we can give ourselves what we need by going within. This isn’t to say that we need to isolate. But imagine the freedom of not needing anyone or anything else to change how we feel!

This week I was messaging with two different coaches who tried to convince me I needed their services AND were not listening to my responses when they asked me questions. 
In fact, one #coach kept asking me the same questions two to three times. It’s as if she didn’t read my responses at all!

Do you think they made the sale each time?

Of course not. Why? They were trying to impose their expectations into the situation rather than being open to what was really happening around them.

What was really happening here?

My intention with each conversation was actually trying to see how we can cross-promote each others’ work, because I love collaboration. I abandoned that idea pretty quickly though. Although both conversations were a bit annoying, I was actually grateful for them.

Because each was a great reminder of what NOT to do when speaking with prospective clients.

What needed to happen?

Each of these coaches had obviously not learned that. When all we do is try to force a result, we are not only showing the Universe how much we need the sale, we are literally chasing #prospects away.
